Welcome to CenterStreet
Center Street Harp Duo is beginning its’ third year of public performances. Years ago Merle and Karen were undergraduate harp students who played together in symphony and frequently as duo performers for harp studio and the American Harp Society Chapter. Going separate directions for graduate school and work they began playing together again when Merle moved back to Arizona to ultimately retire. Since both Karen and Merle had more free time and had enjoyed ensemble playing they began rehearsing to play for a school harp dedication. This was so well received and they enjoyed the opportunity to create music as a harp duo that they began officially setting aside rehearsal time to prepare concert programs for the community and special event. The rest as they say is “history.”
Center Street Harp duo loves playing virtuosic and romantic music written to especially show off the beauty and versatility of this amazing instrument. The duo is always ready to try something new but only performs what they end up loving. This past spring they commissioned Dave and Jean Perry to write a work for them using Arizona/Southwest themes. This work (as yet unnamed) will be presented at concerts in the spring of 2011. They are extremely excited about a work that will be suited for them and the area they represent. Look for future up-dates and spring concerts for this new work.
